Right now, being a leader at any scale, whether you manage people or not, revolves around correctly understanding the interaction of the Covid Pandemic and our economy.

Cries to reopen the economy and return to work are rising. Some phrase these as a return to normalcy. As a leader, it is critical to be actively learning about the changes pandemic behavior is making on your business and on the economy around it.

Normally I coach about leadership. Right now, the primary job of a leader is to understand these combined forces of disease and economics, and importantly, our human emotional response to them. Even people who strongly believe in the need for social distancing are getting sick of being trapped inside. People with emotional needs act to meet them, even if that means rationalizing behavior that they don’t agree with morally or intellectually. The need to “feel better” wins in the end.

This is why my next two Twitch broadcasts feature an economist and a virologist as guests. Because to be a good leader you to seek and apply good information. Right now the best leadership coaching I can give you is access to expertise.

Friday at 3 PM PDT, we will have Dr. Scott Baker, Associate Professor of Finance at the Kellogg School of Management. He is an expert in household economic behavior – how real people respond to fear and uncertainty.

Tuesday at 5 PM PDT Dr. Vincent Racaniello, Professor of Microbiology and virus expert from Columbia University will return to my Twitch broadcast.

Both of these discussions will give you the information to make good decisions, to lead your life, your teammates, and your business, in our disrupted world.
